NEW VIDEO: Final Consonant Clusters

Have you heard of a final consonant cluster? Do you struggle to pronounce words that have a lot of consonants next to one another? In this video, this is exactly what I’m going to help you with.

I’m making this video for a scriber, so it’s worth leaving a comment as I could be making a video especially for you.

What are final consonant clusters?

So consonant clusters: in British English there are many words with clusters of consonants, which is to say that there are a number of consonants following one another without vowel sounds in between.

Some consonant clusters are two, three or even four sounds in length and they can be at the beginning, middle or end of words. Final consonant clusters are a cluster of consonants at the end of a word.

Most speakers pronounce consonant clusters quite well, although some are more difficult, especially when we get three or four together at the end of a word.

We’re going to focus on three of the trickiest final consonant clusters, but if you have others that you struggle with other final consonant clusters, please post them in the comments below. So, here they are (go to 1.23 in the video above to listen):

prompts, attempts, tempts, pre-empts

texts, contexts
